Career Pathways for Aged Care WorkersCareer Pathways for Aged Care Workers

Please Note:  In many cases qualifications are not always a pre-requisite when looking for a rewarding job in Aged Care.  Some workers can be trained on the jo, or train while they work under a traineeship or workbased training arrangement.

However for those wanting  to continue their studies and work towards a more challenging profession with higher responsibilities the following pathways may be helpful:

Pathway Qualifications

Certificate II in Community Services - usually offered as a schools pathway program or a school based traineeship 

Entry No Minimum Education required
Career Pathway Stage One – Vocational Education and Training (VET) offered as traineeships, workbased training or on campus

Certificate III in Aged Care & Certificate III in Home and Community Care

Job Role

Personal Carer in a Residential and / or Community Care environment

Skills

Provide assistance to the elderly in supporting their physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Assist the elderly with various aspects of their personal care & hygiene. Help maintain independence in the daily lives of the elderly both domestically and with their daily activities. 

Pathways

Further study options can open pathways to progress towards a career in nursing, Program Coordinator, & Aged Care Management positions.

Career Pathway StageTwo – Vocational Education and Training (VET) offered as traineeships, workbased training or on campus
Certificate IV in Aged Care Work & Certificate IV in Home and Community Care Aged Care Work
